The movie begins with the Smurfette’s confusion over her identity. She wakes with a question who she is and where she belongs? The question most children who lives in a new family has. A new family created by adoption or with stepparent. This movie is an answer to this.
The movie parallels Patrick Winslow, the stepson of Victor Doyle and Smurfette adoptive daughter of Papa Smurf. When Patrick rejects Victor. Smurfette was confused whether papa will come to rescue her. She was unable to see whether she is a Gargamel or a Smurfs. She need to choose between the Wizard Gargamel, who tries to act sweet to her and get a favor and the Papa Smurf, who is fight to rescue her, which she is not aware of.
Vexy and Hackus represents other set of children who lives with a unloving parent. And tries the best to get his recognition but always failed. One of their attempts is to trap Smurfette to win Gargamel’s love. They succeeded in befriending Smurfette, but not in winning Gargamel’s love, as he has no love at his heart.
Patrick considers Victor Doyle as a embarrassment and chooses to be a Winslow, father who is not in his life, rejecting Victor Doyle, for all his love. Victor was a man who is bundled up with love; find kinship even with the duck with which he stays for a short while. Patrick does not see his love but only blames his for removing the pet Parrot from him. Finally Victor talks to him how he loves him with the whole of his heart when he sees Patrick as a child and not because he married his mother. He also explains Patrick bird allergy for removing the parrot from him.
At the end Smurfette realizes the evil Gargamel’s true picture but gives the secret formula, which she protects as it is trusted into her, only to save Vexy and Hackus. Smurfette cries over her act. She considers it a trait and she has betrayed Papa Smurf. But the Papa was happy that Smurfette has proved as a Smurf by saving lives. He also accepts Vexy and Hackus as his children too.
The movie ends with two united families, the Smurfs and the Doyles. In real world, some children have unloving parents, who aren’t worth the child’s love like Gargamel and the unseen Winslow. Life is not destined to the unloving biological father or mother. There will always be a loving parent waiting for you like Papa Smurf and Victor Doyle. It could be your stepparent, uncle or aunt, adoptive parents or even your big brother, who loves you with whole of their heart. As Papa Smurf says, it doesn’t matter where you came from, what matters is whom you choose to be.
